A New Gallery Coming to Lunenburg
I’m thrilled to be part of a new artist-run gallery that will be opening this spring in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Our co-operative, Gallery on Lincoln, is owned and operated by a small group of local artists and has been taking shape behind the scenes. Over the past months, we have been busy designing the logo and branding, creating signage and marketing materials, building a website, filling out paperwork, putting logistics in place, and getting the gallery space ready for our opening exhibit.
As a small group of artists joining together to form a new co-operative, most of us only met for the first time in December. From the abundance of chatter and laughter spilling out the gallery door as I arrived for the first meeting, I knew I was going to be in for a treat. It's been a joyful connection and eruption of creative ideas from the get-go, as well as a generous sharing of experience, resources, and guidance.
There are eleven member artists in the co-operative ranging from newly-emerging through to those with decades of experience as professional artists. Our group spans several generations of artists who are working in a variety of media, with each person bringing different areas of expertise from other careers or walks of life.

New artist-led gallery brings contemporary fine art to Lunenburg’s Gallery Row
A bold new creative space is coming to the heart of Lunenburg’s thriving arts district. Gallery on Lincoln, a contemporary fine art gallery owned and operated by 11 respected Nova Scotia artist-entrepreneurs, will officially open its doors on April 3, 2025.
Gallery on Lincoln is located on Lincoln Street, in the very heart of “Gallery Row” in Lunenburg, NS – one of Canada’s most-loved UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The gallery features a dynamic collection of contemporary landscape, figurative, still life, and abstract works created by a talented and professional group of artists whose work is held in private and public collections around the world.
“Gallery on Lincoln brings together a group of accomplished artists who saw an opportunity to showcase their work and create something special in an extraordinary location,” says Paulette Melanson, Acadian artist and President of the gallery. “Many of us live and work in this area, and we’re thrilled to be part of Lunenburg’s vibrant arts community.”
Gallery artists include: Catherine Bagnell Styles, Michelle Darwin, Mj Dominey, Lynn Ellis, Janet Griffen, Mary Kersell, Paulette Melanson, Mary Morey, David Shimp, Katy Maria Shimp, and Sharon Wadsworth-Smith.
DOORS OPEN: APRIL 3, 2025.
OPENING RECEPTION: APRIL 26, 2–4PM.
