Late Afternoon Series
A new series of Nova Scotia houses captured in late afternoon sunlight
In late afternoon, especially in fall and winter, the sun is low in the sky, casting a distinctive warm reddish-orange light.
I love to walk as a way to get to know new and familiar places. These paintings are all of houses I’ve passed by one – or many times – on my walks.
As this series of paintings emerged, I was drawn to the strong lines of light and shadow, as well as to to the colour effects of light as it bounced around, especially in the shadow areas. Once I had painted the first two houses, I began seeking late afternoon light, and delighted to find at least one little orange brick chimney in each piece.
Here are SIX NEW PAINTINGS capturing late afternoon light on the façades of a variety of historic Nova Scotia houses.
Artist’s Note:
These six paintings will be on display at the Seaside Artisans show July 11-14, 2024. They will be listed on my website in OCTOBER, and will be $175+tax, matted and ready-to-frame. If you’d like to reserve one, please send me an email!
